We did the Colombo → Kandy → Sigiriya → Galle (staying in Mirissa) route and it was great but took 2 full weeks. If I had the limited time you have I'd choose one or the other (beach or mountains). Myself, I would fly into Colombo and head straight to Kandy and base out of there for the entire trip (Places such as Sigiriya and Ella can be done as day trips so long as you hire a car, which is not too expensive).
