Milos is highly regarded as a top-tier Greek island destination, frequently praised for its unique, "otherworldly" geological landscapes and diverse beaches. Travelers often describe it as a perfect middle ground that offers plenty of amenities and excellent dining while maintaining a more relaxed and adventurous atmosphere than busier islands like Santorini.
Pros
- Unique 'moon-rock' coastline and landscapes, particularly at Sarakiniko Beach.
- Exceptional variety of beaches that are distinct from one another.
- High-quality local dining experiences and restaurants.
- Picturesque scenery including colorful fishing ports and mountaintop towns.
- A calmer, slower pace compared to high-traffic islands like Santorini.
Cons
- Some travelers may find the island's appeal limited if they do not connect with its specific beach-focused landscape.
Caveats
- While it has good amenities, the pace is notably slower than Athens or major party islands.
- Opinions can be subjective when compared to neighboring islands like Naxos, which some travelers prefer for its different 'speed' or vibe.
Best for
- Couples seeking a romantic or adventurous getaway.
- Travelers interested in unique coastal geology and diverse beach hopping.
- Those looking for a balance between popular tourist infrastructure and a relaxing atmosphere.
Avoid if
- You prefer the specific atmosphere or layout of islands like Naxos.
- You are seeking a high-intensity, fast-paced urban travel experience.

Places like meteora, vikos, zagorochoria, or when it comes to islands, milos, Ithaca and paxos, Karachi’s are some of the most beautiful ones.
I was honestly a bit disappointed by Milos. Sarakniko Beach was obviously incredible, but the rest left a lot to be desired. Naxos was more my speed.
The moonstone beach in Milos (sarakiniko) is not to miss! Easy to take the bus to. It’s a magical island and was very calm and appreciated after being in Santorini. We also did an amazing family owned boat tour Oneiro Milos
For someone who wants a warm coastal destination and isn't an experienced traveller? Greece is great. Do crete, milos, and meteora.
Crete, Naxos, or Milos.
Look up all the different beaches on Milos. They were all so different and amazing. I was there 4 days with my wife and we explored the entire island. Been to 4/5 Greek islands and Milos is the easy #1.
Go to Crete for a couple days and take a ferry to the island of Milos… trust me… Milos has been my favorite Greek island so far
can you please trust me on this... Milos ...you are welcome in advance
I specifically recommend the island of Milos. It’s something else. Trust me.
Milos if you want those otherworldly, moon-rock coastlines and colorful fishing ports. Can't go wrong with either, but for a couple? Milos feels more like an adventure.
