The Miele triflex or duoflex models, while bagless, are much better made than the sharks you're used to.
The Miele Duoflex looks like exactly what I want. I'm not too bothered by a bit of extra weight, my bigger priority is avoiding too much bulk.
I'd recommend looking at the miele duoflex. It's about 499 CAD, a little over budget, but it's far better constructed than the sharks. It has one filter only, with a filter cleaning mechanism built in which helps knock dust off the filter.
If you want a machine you can get through an independent dealer, or which can do carpet,I'd recommend giving miele another try. The duoflex is quite good
