Microsoft Edge
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Microsoft Edge is frequently cited as a high-performance, resource-efficient alternative to Chrome and Firefox, particularly for cross-platform use and video conferencing. While users appreciate its integration with the Microsoft ecosystem and features like reading mode, there is significant frustration regarding aggressive OS-level promotion and perceived bloat from AI features.
Pros
- Strong cross-platform performance across Windows, macOS, Android, and Linux
- Generally lower resource intensity compared to Chrome and Firefox, especially during video calls
- Excellent built-in reading mode and high-quality text-to-speech features
- Supports popular extensions like uBlock Origin and Adguard out of the box
- Seamless synchronization for users already utilizing Microsoft services like OneDrive and Outlook
Cons
- Persistent and intrusive 'nagging' popups encouraging users to adopt the browser or AI features
- Perceived bloat from frequent additions of AI and other non-essential features
- Inconsistent mobile experience, with some users reporting high battery drain on Android
- Aggressive integration into Windows that makes changing default browser settings difficult
Caveats
- A portion of the data mentions 'Edge' in the context of hardware synthesizers (e.g., Behringer Edge), which is unrelated to the browser
- While it functions as a PDF viewer, it may struggle with very large files (e.g., 500MB+)
- Privacy and cookie management policies can be complex for enterprise administrators to balance with security scores
Best for
- Users heavily invested in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem
- People looking for a Chromium-based browser that uses fewer system resources
- Users who rely on text-to-speech or high-quality reading modes
Avoid if
- You are highly sensitive to frequent promotional popups and software 'nagging'
- You prefer a minimalist, lightweight browser without integrated AI tools
- You have experienced battery life issues with the mobile version on Android

Edge nowadays support it and Adguard extension out of the box.
I have a 4GB netbook It runs edge fine
Using edge worked, but it seems to hate Firefox
Actually disregard what I said, I used the laptop for more than a day with edge and it turns out that edge uses just as much battery as chrome so I just went back to using chrome lol so yeah don't think edge is saving battery at all.
Edge is optimized specifically for windows and can do anything chrome can.
Don't run edge trash.
run edge with the unlock origin extension.
Does anyone know how to be able to play the videos? I've tried Edge, Chrome and Brave on Windows, and Edge on iOS. But I've only able to play the first video of the playlist, the rest tell me my browser is very restrictive
I tried this today and can confirm edge is so much better, tried comparing with chrome which uses more than twice the amount of battery than edge for the same amount of time ... Only problem is can't import bookmarks from chrome to edge as it just doesn't show the option for it
Edge is absolutely more energy- and memory-efficient in Windows 11, no question. I switched from Chrome about four years ago; while Chrome has gotten better over time, it's still modestly inferior.
