AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Meze Empyrean II is widely regarded as an 'endgame' headphone, celebrated for its exceptional blend of luxury aesthetics, stellar build quality, and a warm yet technically proficient sound signature. Users frequently describe it as a masterpiece that balances musical emotion with high-end detail, often making other headphones in a collection feel less satisfying by comparison.

Pros

  • Exceptional aesthetics and build quality, often cited as one of the best-looking headphones available.
  • High level of comfort with earcups described as being like 'couches.'
  • Warm, musical sound signature that retains strong technical performance and 'verticality.'
  • Impressive sub-bass punch and rumble, particularly when paired with hybrid pads.
  • Relatively easy to drive, with users noting they 'run on anything.'

Cons

  • Extremely high entry price of approximately $3,000 USD.
  • High cost for official accessories, such as replacement or alternative pads.
  • Significant importation taxes and duties for buyers outside of major retail regions.

Caveats

  • The sound signature leans toward the warm/neutral side; those seeking a strictly clinical or 'sterile' presentation may prefer other brands.
  • While highly technical, some users still find value in keeping older, 'lush' headphones like the HD6XX for specific listening moods.

Best for

  • Audiophiles seeking a final 'endgame' headphone that prioritizes both luxury design and musicality.
  • Listeners who value long-term wearing comfort alongside high-fidelity sound.

Avoid if

  • You are budget-conscious or looking for a high performance-to-dollar ratio.
  • You prefer a very analytical or sterile sound profile over a warm one.

Honestly, I'd be perfectly with just the bass shelf. I like how the Empy 2 is voiced thorough the alcantara pads.

They're good, but they're not 2500€ good. They're also pretty heavy and you start feeling fatigue after an hour or so.

The empyrean has some of the best distortion figures on the market. Couple that with a max SPL of >130 and you get a headphone that responds very well to any EQ.

As far as initial impressions of the Empyrean 2 they do not react to a bass shelf as you’d think , in fact I’m thinking this driver isn’t capable of producing sub bass compared to Edition XS

Maybe give HiFiMAM a chance one day, and give Meze Empyrean II a listen.

Empys are great, I have Empy II and love them. A bit more bright and energy over Empy I but not too much.

Parent context: I've owned these for over a year now and wish it had more bass. My best cans still but lately I'm finding myself using IEMs as a tradeoff. Reply: They take EQ very well. Give them the bass they deserve.

I actually prefer the Empyrean II to the Arya Stealth and HE1000 Stealth and find them just as wide yet more spherical. Especially with the Alcantara pads.

They have taken a back seat on the music depart as I enjoy my Atrium, Verite, and Empyrean II for music way more.
