Meze 109 Pro

The Meze 109 Pro is highly regarded for its exceptional comfort, premium build quality, and 'fun' V-shaped sound signature. While it is frequently praised as an easy-to-drive all-rounder that makes most music sound enjoyable, it faces criticism regarding its high price point and a polarizing treble response that some find sharp or shouty.
Pros
- Top-tier comfort, often cited as the best in its class for long listening sessions.
- Excellent build quality with a premium aesthetic and high repairability.
- Easy to drive, performing well without the need for high-end amplification.
- Engaging and musical sound signature with a warm, punchy character.
- Good balance of detail and soundstage for an open-back design.
Cons
- High MSRP ($799) leads to debates over diminishing returns compared to cheaper staples.
- Midrange dip can cause vocals to feel recessed or 'left behind' instruments.
- Treble can be polarizing, with some users finding it boomy or fatiguing.
- Bass punch may be insufficient for those seeking heavy impact compared to certain closed-backs.
Caveats
- Perception of brightness varies significantly; older listeners may find them dark while younger listeners find them sharp.
- Users often compare them to the Sennheiser HD6XX and Hifiman Arya, with mixed opinions on whether the 109 Pro justifies the price jump over the former.
Best for
- Listeners prioritizing physical comfort and aesthetics.
- Users seeking a 'fun' and musical headphone for general media and music.
- Those who want a premium experience without needing a powerful dedicated amp.
Avoid if
- You are highly sensitive to treble peaks or 'shouty' frequencies.
- You prefer a mid-forward sound signature focused on vocal intimacy.
- You are strictly seeking the highest price-to-performance ratio in the mid-to-high-end market.

I still find myself reaching for my 109 Pros more than any other pair. The combination of comfort, good looks, ease of use, and very enjoyable sound is a winner! You couldn’t pry them away from my hands right now.
yo me decanto por el Fiio K15 y uno de estos auriculares: HD490, Meze 109 pro o el Arya Organic.
Some alternative options be the Arya Stealth, Focal Clear OG, or the Meze 109 Pro but your best bet would be either the HE1000 or the Arya Stealth
in my experience I have not yet tried a more comfortable headphone than the meze's, to me it is truly perfection, so I'd disagree that the luan is more comfortable. ... The meze 109 pro has a dip in the midrange causing voices to be left behind, I think the meze headphones overall are designed and tunned to be more emphasized on instruments. ... When I first listened to it I felt it was not worth it for 800 usd new
The meze 109 pro has a dip in the midrange causing voices to be left behind, I think the meze headphones overall are designed and tunned to be more emphasized on instruments. Also keep in mind the meze 109 pro is double the price of the luan and 105 aer. When I first listened to it I felt it was not worth it for 800 usd new
I would also recommend the Meze 109 Pro if excellent build quality, repairability and a beautifully balanced sound signature are important to you.
Otherwise, consider some other options like the Hedd D1, Meze 109 pro, Sennheiser HD6xx
You can also look at meze 105 or 109 pro if you want open back dynamic.
Every time I try to “upgrade” from them, ie: Elex, 109 Pro, edition XS, Arya Stealth, ZMF Atticus. I always get an immediate rush of regret. This other HP’s sound great but they are not worth THAT much more than the 6XX to me, so I end up selling them and sticking with the 6XX.
I’ve had the Meze 109 Pro, Arya Stealth, Focal Clear OG, ZMF Bokeh Open/Closed, and the Heddphone D1, and while they were all good, I found they weren’t worth the jump in price compared to what I can get out of these
