Pros
- Parent context: The start was amazing but then I realized that it was just fantasy Personna. Reply: I feel like it being 'just fantasy Persona' is a lot of why I enjoyed it so much lol
- the menus and traversal feels sharp and snappy, the archetypes are fun to work with, and the characters are so goodgoddayum charming!
- Best battle music in the bizz, too. that dude chanting his ass off never got old. And as much as I like Persona, I've always enjoyed the Atlus games not set in high schools a bit more. They have the battle system and the style absolutely...
- I can say this is one of the best experiences I’ve had in gaming, it might just be the best. The story and narrative hooked me from the first couple of hours. The game touches on various themes, planting seeds throughout the story that l...
Cons
- I want to love these games but I’ll get like 30 hours in and still feel like I’m playing a hand-holding tutorial. Have tried p3, p5, and metaphor but I just hit a wall where I feel like I’m being infantilized.
- I actually really wanted to like it because it was fantasy Persona - but it just didn't really click for me. Didn't think the social gameplay loop translated very well into the world (good effort though) and the story just sort of starte...
- continues to be fine. I dunno. I don’t hate it, but I’ll go a few days to a week without playing and not really miss it, either. It’s just fine.
- My biggest takeaway from Metaphor is the importance of pacing. No other game made me feel more annoyed at the sheer amount of cutscenes and dialogue in between gameplay segments. ... Despite all that, I still actually liked the game! But...
- Parent context: And finally, the class system lost me when I unlocked the ultimate classes...to see that the path for each character was pre-determined and that my choices were wrong. Reply: But the idea of having this open class system,...

I actually really wanted to like it because it was fantasy Persona - but it just didn't really click for me. Didn't think the social gameplay loop translated very well into the world (good effort though) and the story just sort of started to meander. Didn't really feel the urge to keep doing the repetitive dungeons to get to the next section after a good while.

My biggest takeaway from Metaphor is the importance of pacing. No other game made me feel more annoyed at the sheer amount of cutscenes and dialogue in between gameplay segments. ... Despite all that, I still actually liked the game! But it could have been so much better.
Parent context: And finally, the class system lost me when I unlocked the ultimate classes...to see that the path for each character was pre-determined and that my choices were wrong. Reply: But the idea of having this open class system, giving players free choice, then coming in at the end and making those choices feel wrong was a bad decision by the devs.
Parent context: The early game was amazing : setup of a deeply political intrigue, bosses with crazy designs and mechanics, and my beloved, a class system. Reply: I feel this re: class system. It was a big letdown to realize I simply didn’t have enough time or resources to get some of those final classes, and they appear so late you barely get to enjoy them as is. As a huge TRPG/SRPG fan, I love class systems and exploring different combos, but given the Persona calendar system, Metaphor didn’t give me the time or playground to enjoy my favorite part of the game.
The early game was amazing : setup of a deeply political intrigue, bosses with crazy designs and mechanics, and my beloved, a class system. Unfortunately as time passed on each of these points got weaker to the point where I had lost the strength to continue right at the entrance of the last dungeon.

I found Metaphor to be an overall engaging game that ultimately lost me right before the end. Part of that is I think the story loses a lot of luster after some plot twists that kind of took the wind from my sails... First, I thought the soundtrack was very disappointing. ... To not make it feel like I only have negative things to say, I'll highlight that I loved the characters, particularly the playable cast. ... The Archetype system is more robust than those in the studios prior games and gives players a ton of freedom in how they build characters.
