Pros

  • Aw man you gotta talk about the sound! The music is so atmospheric. And I think the iconic voice acting encouraged other games to take it more seriously. David Hayter was a perfect casting choice and I especially like how grounded yet di...
  • PlayStation 1's Metal Gear Solid is an awesome introduction, but it won't play like any modern game. It'll play almost like an overhead tactical puzzle game. If you can adjust to that older style, it's arguably the best game on PlayStati...
  • Such an amazing game, I think it still holds up really well (despite how much people like to act like Kojima's game have aged a lot, they all have aged splendidly).
  • My time with MGS couldn’t be further from that. ... All of the characters and bosses are so interesting and they only get better and more fleshed out as the game goes on, with intertwining subplots and backstories - not to mention just i...
  • He’s overall a pretty, boring addition to Dread that absolutely should have been optional and used to offer tips or genuinely interesting dialogue (akin to a codec call from Metal Gear Solid).

Cons

  • The gameplay - I’ll admit I died *a lot*, the game really does makes you play tactical. But once you get the hang of it, it is so satisfying and you really start to feel like Snake. The gameplay won’t be for everyone, and in some section...
  • My main goal was to finish it so I could move on to other PlayStation 1 games I never got to play (FF8, FF9, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Metal Gear Solid).
  • I think he's very bad at character, and I think he's extremely conventional, as in non-creative, when it comes to plotting... Kojima's stuff is... Fine, be a game creator, and know what you're not very good at, and learn to work with peo...

My time with MGS couldn’t be further from that. ... All of the characters and bosses are so interesting and they only get better and more fleshed out as the game goes on, with intertwining subplots and backstories - not to mention just incredible sauce. The main plot and writing is top notch and made me stop and think about stuff in our real world multiple times.

The gameplay - I’ll admit I died *a lot*, the game really does makes you play tactical. But once you get the hang of it, it is so satisfying and you really start to feel like Snake. The gameplay won’t be for everyone, and in some sections the controls can be working against you, but it is very manageable not bad compared to other games of this age.

Metal Gear Solid just came out and I've been having a blast with it. The movement/line-of-sight rules are not immediately intuitive, but once you get it, the way it actually works is actually pretty remarkable, and not that complicated in presentation.

As for MGS, I used to think the games were clunky and not that great, but after playing the first 3, some of 4, and a decent chunk of 5, I completely changed my mind.

For the record, I’m yet to be convinced that *Metal Gear* doesn’t totally kick ass.
