Matter

Pros

• Matter just makes more stuff compatible with HomeKit and has eliminated the limitations it used to have with device compatibility.
• matter creates a unified standard so no one has to guess if the product works with their ecosystem. Weather I have Apple home, Google, Alexa, home assistant I just need to look for the master logo.
• Matter supports multiple controllers simultaneously.
• Im not buying anything thats not matter certified, prefer thread protocol.
• Matter = I can use Apple Home via my Apple TV. Everything is easy and it just works. Non-tech wife is happy.

Cons

• Matter is not ready as it want to be, it works for quite some home automation solutions though. Something with Philips and Google.
• I have been in the smart home scene for about 5 years now, matter was (is?) really promising, but till now it has not materialized to anything big.
• Also - the popular conversation of Matter technology is still a bit infant as the world players are not putting too much variety of real products that work. A work in progress.
• The platforms that are evolving (Matter) or uncertified (Zigbee) are so variable as to who supports what and how close they are to the specs.
• From what I have read about Thread and Matter, the former addresses some real limitations with current WiFi-based devices. I have a harder time understanding the value of Matter, beyond all the usual marketing-driven promises of easy int...
