Pros
- I stayed only one night in Matera and wish I'd stayed longer.
- Definitely worth it, but whether it's worth the detour on a long drive is a personal call.
- Look for a trip to Matera, there is no train but I bet there is a bus, it is a historical cave town.
- Also, like others have said, don’t miss Matera. Especially at night.
- 100% worth it
Cons
- If you want pools and beaches, skip Matera. That's a wholly different kind of travel experience.

Matera is very unique and a spectacular town and very worth the drive if you have time.
Matera!!! Yes - thank you and apologies. It was a little further from an hour from our hotel but an easy drive. Inland but absolutely beautiful! Must see. Lots to do and see.
Alberobello is fine as a day trip, but Matera is the one I would protect time for.
Strongly recommend Lecce and Matera.
Matera is absolutely worth the overnight. The evening there is special.
