Pros
- In terms of safety in NYC, I feel totally safe anywhere in Manhattan as long as I stay where other people are — for instance, if I get to a block where I can't see any other people, I'll turn around.
- Manhattan is very easy. Its all a logical grid that goes south to north and east to west with only minor oddities.
- If they are intending to explore NYC for that full week, they should stay in Manhattan. There are plenty of decent hotels, and while they're more expensive than NJ, they'll be wildly more convenient and that convenience is worth some money.
- Personally I usually try to stay in manhattan because it's easier to get to the park and broadway and museums.
- We stayed in Manhattan (Times Square/Broadway) and I’ve had the thoughts you had before. I was wondering if it wouldn’t be worth the trade-off to save that much money. We’ve had 5 nights and I was told (convincingly) I should pay more fo...

We stayed in Manhattan (Times Square/Broadway) and I’ve had the thoughts you had before. I was wondering if it wouldn’t be worth the trade-off to save that much money. We’ve had 5 nights and I was told (convincingly) I should pay more for the location and save the valuable time I’d be commuting with my kids. And I have to say for us it was so worth it. We stepped out of the hotel and were right in the middle of everything and we absolutely loved it.
It’s worth it to stay in NYC and not have to worry about how you’re getting to NYC everyday. You will be much more relaxed on vacation.
