Malcesine is often easier if you want a pretty town without overloading the day.
I'd also recommend Malcesine over Riva (you can visit Riva on a bus in 30 mins) because Malcesine is more relaxed and has less people.
This historical town is famous for its medieval castle and stunning views. It is also home to the Funivia Malcesine - a cable car which takes you 1600 metres up to the top of Monte Baldo.
Malcesine gets my vote, slightly more in the middle gor ease of going north and south on the lake. Lots of bars and restaurants
