macOS is a polarizing operating system that draws sharp divisions between users. While it is highly regarded for its stability, superior memory management, and Unix-based environment for developers, it faces significant criticism for its unintuitive window management and a steep learning curve for those transitioning from Windows. Users often describe it as a 'different beast' that requires unlearning Windows habits to appreciate.
Pros
- Best-in-class battery and memory management compared to Windows.
- Strong Unix-based terminal environment, making it a preferred choice for software development.
- Excellent integration with trackpad gestures and the broader Apple ecosystem.
- Generally perceived as more stable and less 'bloated' with third-party crapware than Windows.
Cons
- Unintuitive window management and lack of native window-snapping features (often requiring paid third-party apps).
- Significant 'System Data' bloat that can quickly consume limited base storage.
- Poor support for native gaming and limited tools for porting Windows-specific software.
- Steep learning curve with 'foreign' defaults and keyboard shortcuts that feel unintuitive to long-time PC users.
Caveats
- Remote administration and enterprise support can be more difficult than on Windows due to aggressive permission limits.
- Base storage models (e.g., 256GB) are increasingly viewed as insufficient due to the growing size of the OS and system files.
- The 'simplicity' of the OS is often debated; it is frequently described as easy for tech-illiterate users but frustrating for power users used to other environments.
Best for
- Software developers and power users who need a Unix-like GUI.
- Users prioritizing battery life and portable performance.
- Individuals already heavily invested in the iPhone ecosystem.
Avoid if
- Gaming is a primary use case for your computer.
- You rely on specific Windows-only software that lacks a native macOS version.
- You find non-standard window management and file navigation frustrating.

we're currently on macOS and I'm not the biggest fan. It has some upsides (battery life and such) but that's about it.
I think for that price it’s the best laptop, it has one of the (if not the) best performance, battery will last long so you won’t have to worry too much about carrying charger everywhere, it’s snappy and generally macOS is much better for development vs windows in my opinion.
MacOS is NOT easy to learn. It is the most foreign desktop compared to anything else (including GNOME), and has weird defaults.
Lately with MacOS users: “Exchange needs your credentials, click here” then ¿how do I get rid of this annoying message?
MacOS is a terrible OS, Windows is as well in different ways.
it's clearly a better choice than Windows or macOS
MacOS is more stable, has best speakers and trackpad, it's stupid reliable.
Is macOS loads better? Not really. Do they both suck in their own way? Yes.
I like Windows 11 much more than macOS
I assume you want a trouble-free stable experience with trading software so maybe avoid macOS.
