Lucerne for 3 days seems excessive, you could potentially add on a night or two in Bolzano, there is an easy train from Innsbruck.
Lucerne would certainly do the job and give you a wide range of options of what to do.
Lucerne is a few minutes closer to Zurich and also has the lake right next to it along with a number of easy trips into the mountains.
You can see everything Lucerne has to offer in a day if you want to, but tbh Swiss cities aren’t the reason for visiting.
lucerne is genuinely hard to beat as a base for that middle stretch. it's right on the milan-paris rail line so connections are easy, super walkable around the lake, and you've got cable cars up pilatus and rigi just outside the city. food scene is pretty solid too.

Lovely little city. I could only stay there for one night though because it was so expensive, and that was with a free hotel stay lol. Even my dinner at Burger King was like $25.

I really want to visit Interlaken, but I’m not sure if I can afford it, so Lucerne is my backup.
If I had more time (I was only there for 2 days), I would have loved to stay in Lucerne. It was so pretty!
