Lords of Waterdeep

Pros
- Could try it with some really simple games like Lords of Waterdeep and Power Grid.
- Lords of Waterdeep : still a classic, worker placement with nice theme.
- Our favorites are mid-weight euros. Here's a little list, and all of these take the same three of us about 60-90 minutes 1. Lords of Waterdeep (base)
- Try out some other gateway games, such as Lords of Waterdeep, Azul, or Carcassonne.
- Lords of Waterdeep (I'm the only D&D nerd, but the game is a lot of fun for everyone). Even my father in law, who is over 80, likes that one.
Cons
- Played it when it first came out with my 18xx group at the time and we all didn’t really like it and felt it was more like lords of waterdeep than 18xx
- Other Worker Placement games have players placing the buildings/tiles/cards that can be used in future turns, like in Lords Of Waterdeep, but that's not playing along the Route the players or the Game End Timers (as in Caylus) are moving...

That was far more time than I've ever been willing to give to a game of Catan when I could be playing Lords of Waterdeep or Space Base instead.
Most of my friends thought Lords of Waterdeep was too aggressive, so we took out all the attack cards and unbalanced buildings and everyone seems to enjoy it a lot more.
Ethnos and Lords of Waterdeep are a bit more involved but should work with 8 year old.
Lords of Waterdeep is DnD-themed and not too rules heavy. A worker placement game about sending adventurers on quests.
