Lone Women by Victor LaValle. It's set in Montana in 1915 so it has the gritty frontier vibe but with a paranormal horror twist.

It doesn't fit 100% but, **Lone Women** by Victor LaValle (historical horror, centered on homesteading) that I'm currently reading might do it.

a real easy read as it cuts along at quite the pace. I particularly appreciated how LaValle not only doesn't over-explain things, he just skips entire scenes that have been meticulously set up and you know what happens next, so why waste time? It's a very economical style that paints vivid pictures nonetheless.
