Logitech G29
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Logitech G29 is widely considered the quintessential entry-level sim racing wheel, frequently described as the "gateway" into the hobby. While it is praised for its durability and value—often lasting users several years—it is a gear-driven system that lacks the realism and smoothness of more modern Direct Drive (DD) or belt-driven alternatives. It is highly recommended for beginners to see if they enjoy sim racing before committing to high-end equipment.
Pros
- Excellent entry point for beginners to test the hobby
- Highly durable, with users reporting 2 to 5 years of consistent use
- Great value, particularly when found at second-hand prices
- Provides a significant immersion boost over standard controllers
Cons
- Lacks the realism and detail of Direct Drive or higher-end belt-driven wheels
- Pedal ergonomics can cause ankle pain if not positioned or propped up correctly
- Gear-driven mechanism is considered 'basic' by experienced racers
Caveats
- Many users eventually upgrade to systems like the Thrustmaster T300 or Moza DD setups
- The process of mounting and unmounting the wheel from a desk can become a deterrent to frequent use
Best for
- First-time sim racers on a budget
- GT7 and F1 game players looking for a more serious experience
- Users looking for a reliable, widely-supported starter rig
Avoid if
- You have the budget for a 15NM or similar Direct Drive wheel
- You prioritize maximum mechanical realism and smooth force feedback
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of over 400 days; while the G29 is a stable hardware product, confidence is medium as the sim racing market has shifted toward affordable Direct Drive options since many of these comments were authored.

But in practice all phones are good while a g29 and an high end rig are in a completely different class not even comparable for me
So that's a pretty darn good deal for a 15NM direct drive wheel compared to a g29 with the same price range
Congrats! I just bought one for myself 2 months ago and love it!
I have the same wheel and pedals. I JUST discovered 10 years later that by propping up the pedals so that your feet are higher makes a WORLD of difference. Otherwise your ankles will hurt.
man I miss the good old days of G29. It was "basic" but was my first proper FFB wheel, and that opened a whole world of racing.
For christmas my parents got me a G29 to play GT7 more seriously and me and my father has been having a blast with it.
It all started with a g29 and f1 2020
Turns out it wasnt a bucket seat but a stand with a kind of worn out seat, with a g29. They were asking for 100 bucks, but I asked him if I could get his number and text him if no one buys it. He said he would get rid of it for 70 bucks, so I had to buy it.
I knew ahead of time the G29 is not particularly realistic but I wasn't expecting it to be *that* much of a difference I suppose.
same here. went from a desk mounted g29 to a full moza setup and a wheelstand and absolutely having a blast.
