Pros
- excellent environmental and small elements sounds, plus some damn fine voice acting (with the funny faces). The notebook handling, pen writing, car driving sounds so authentic and detailed
- But the campaign and its gameplay is so experimental and unique that it manages to hold itself up on that alone. It's a very good game, just still feels like a proof of concept in some ways
- There are so many ways in which this game is ambitious and *almost* great, and for many reasons as you detail, the writing/narrative is absolutely one of those ways.
Cons
- Yeah, it's such a cool idea but there's a lot of annoying frustrations that drag it down. Making the player observing every subtle detail a critical gameplay mechanic also has the knock-of effect of them noticing every weirdness of the f...

excellent environmental and small elements sounds, plus some damn fine voice acting (with the funny faces). The notebook handling, pen writing, car driving sounds so authentic and detailed in a game where the small stuff is always important.
excellent environmental and small elements sounds, plus some damn fine voice acting (with the funny faces). ... From the occasional song, to the roar of old cars, crunchy leather shoes, crispy voice acting and dozens of other big and small sounds with incredible attention to detail, it’s a pleasure to solve every case in this game.
Yeah, it's such a cool idea but there's a lot of annoying frustrations that drag it down. Making the player observing every subtle detail a critical gameplay mechanic also has the knock-of effect of them noticing every weirdness of the facial animation that otherwise might've gone overlooked and forcing them to guess if it's a purposeful subtle hint or just the quirkiness of their facial capture tech.

Reply: Yeah the options for interrogating suspects when they developed the game were intended as "Coax," "Force" and "Accuse."

LA Noire is such a frustrating game for me. I was super excited for it and bought it day 1. ... And, for the most part, I got a pretty good detective experience out of the game... but there were things that left a bad taste in my mouth at the time …
The first two desks are pretty great, and of course Arson is very good too. Homicide is where things started to unravel for me. ... But where things really soured my experience with the game was at the end of Vice. ... And it felt like such a slap in the face. This kind of plot point needed way more development than a little throwaway scene with no dialogue
But the campaign and its gameplay is so experimental and unique that it manages to hold itself up on that alone. It's a very good game, just still feels like a proof of concept in some ways
Sometimes, there's also a slight discrepancy between what the game says and what it expects - for example, during the double arson interrogation, Phelps says something like "I found proof in your locker that you could've commited these arsons" and so I thought *right, he's talking about the flammable coils we found in there* but he actually meant, and I was supposed to select, the anarchist flyers.
