Monsoon is July–August in most of Thailand, so beaches like Phuket or Krabi are hit with frequent rain then.
Thailand has the big city with Bangkok but also the nature component (thinking Krabi might be more of a fit than say Phuket just given it's a bit more of an active but still beach destination which I'm thinking might be better if you liked Hawaii but not Bahamas for example)
Pattaya is awful, definitely don't go there and going south to Krabi you'd need to fly otherwise it's a long overnight bus, transfers etc.
Then Krabi for beaches and chill time also If you want more nightlife swap Krabi with Phuket.
I think you'd like Krabi. Cheap, beautiful, laid back, and tons of day trips available for things like kayaking and rock climbing and boating around the various islands (including Phi Phi).
If you do Thailand, I'd recommend staying in Krabi rather than Railay Beach. Railay Beach is still accessible (it's a short boat ride away, with multiple rides per day) but you'll be able to do more stuff in/around Krabi. I stayed in the Ao Nang area and loved it. I went kayaking in a mangrove, rock climbing on Railay, day tripping around the Phi Phi islands, and swimming with bioluminescent plankton. There was tons more I didn't get a chance to book, too.
4 days Krabi and 5 days Phuket were absolutely amazing😍
