Pros
- Wow! I just took a small sip of the Komagatake and man, that is delicious. That dark chocolate cuts through real nice!
- Komagatake actually tastes great peated.
- Their more recent (iirc the 2023 edition) Tsunuki and Komagatake single malts, and their blended Y.A.s are international award winning items.
- Good bottles like Komagatake
- Same with the Komagatake!
Cons
- Parent context: Personally I find the newer Komagatakes to be a bit weak in terms of identity. The newer single cask releases tend to be on the younger side, usually have a sweet malt + fruity profile. I think they taste pretty good, but...
- I feel similarly about Komagatake, that the distillate can come out underwhelming for the price if not aged and/or vatted carefully.
- The bottles look pretty ugly now. The juice is what matters.

Reply: Agreed on the weaker profiles for Komagatake. I guess it's Mars' product for those that like a lighter Japanese-esque profile, similar to the Yamazaki NAS or Hibiki.

Komagatake aged from 15-30 years will be in the 1-2k price range which may be on the higher side, but is real quality and more unique.
I don’t know maybe just get a Yamazaki 12 or maybe a Komagatake
