We have also gone to Africa in December (Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania) with the main on Safari trips. Also a fantastic experience but way more expensive than Asia. We saw an amazing array of animals, including the big five, and visited the gorillas in Rwanda l, which was a very powerful experience. It’s very warm in those countries, especially Tanzania.
But I would pick Kenya simply because it's the most different from places you've already visited

My stepson's mom went to Kenya and they did the Masai village tour. There was this woman who kept obnoxiously fawning over a Masai baby, taking pictures, saying she wished she could take him home with her, etc.

Kenya and Ethiopia are both amazing, but totally different vibes. Given your short trip, splitting it might feel rushed - I'd personally lean towards focusing on one country to make the most of it.
I knew the safaris were going to be good but I had no idea how good. Seeing these exotic animals in their natural habitat and some even closer was insane. Sometimes heart breaking. The Masai people are born into a natural understanding of life in harmony with nature. You come to realize that their entire life view is born of this perspective which gives them a warmth and genuine nature you can feel inside yourself. It’s humbling. It fills the heart.
Kenya is amazing in January. Jacarandas are all flowering.
This year I'm going to Kenya and Seychelles, first time in the African continent and from all reports both are solo traveler friendly and Kenya especially welcoming ti black travelers.
