Pros
- I second the suggestion for a Kenmore canister. For carrying up and down stairs they also have a slot in the back of the canister that the power head hooks into so you can carry the whole thing with one hand.
- With carpet, I would look at a kenmore canister.
- I vote for the Kenmore canister too. I've owned one for 37 years, still running. Used for wall to wall carpet and hardwood floors. Add cat and dog :D. They come with all the attachments. I like that I'm only handling the weight of the ho...
- I had heard some good things about the Kenmore canister
- Best way to get a good vacuum and decent stain control would be a Kenmore canister and a Bissell little green (or the revolution 2x if you have the room for it).
Cons
- replacing an aging but still functioning Kenmore canister that had a small motorized head for stairs etc as well as the normal motorized head.
- My 15 year old Kenmore canister works ok other than the carpet/rug attachment crapped out.
- I’m see most good reviews of the Kenmore, but I also see reviews saying the build quality isn’t that great. ... Kenmore is often recommended because they tick most boxes for a more budget friendly price. But long term, they aren't the hi...
- My Kenmore canister died and it was not worth getting repaired so I trashed it.
- I tried sucking up some laundry scent beads so my Kenmore canister won't stink like dog when it first turns on and it worked great! ... Mine has exhaust filter and HEPA and I use Kenmore cloth bags but it still smells like dog

A Kenmore canister would easily fall under your budget and have a lot of the ergonomic features you need, like lightweight, cord reel, foot pedals, and fingertip controls.

Id check out a kenmore canister personally. It'll last ya a while and clean really well.
