Kayak
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Kayak is primarily valued as a robust tool for flight research and tracking, with users frequently highlighting its 'Anywhere' search and filtering capabilities. While it is a staple for air travel planning, sentiment is more mixed regarding its effectiveness for accommodations and the accuracy of third-party information like car rental office hours.
Pros
- Highly effective for tracking flights and logged miles.
- The 'Anywhere' explore tool is a favorite for open-ended travel planning.
- Strong filtering options for narrowing down search results.
- Useful for identifying car rental availability across multiple providers.
- Features a toggle to view total hotel prices including taxes.
Cons
- Considered less robust or useful for hotel bookings compared to other platforms.
- Date flexibility options can feel either too precise or too vague for some users.
- Occasional inaccuracies in third-party service details, such as car rental operating hours.
- Search capabilities may have limitations compared to specialized competitors.
Caveats
- Information regarding car rental counter hours may not always reflect real-time local operations.
- Users often use it for research but may find limitations in search flexibility for specific situations.
Best for
- Flight research and tracking long-term travel history.
- Finding inspiration for trips with the 'Explore' anywhere feature.
- Quickly filtering through large sets of flight data.
Avoid if
- You require highly specific yet flexible date range searches.
- You are looking for the most comprehensive or robust accommodation search engine.
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 201 days, suggesting confidence should be lower as app features and travel data accuracy can change quickly.

I use Kayak to track and there’s 260 flights logged for 567,542 miles.
Use the Kayak anywhere search, https://www.kayak.com/explore/BER-anywhere/20260408,20260415,
Kayak is impeccable for flights but I've found it not so useful for accommodation. It's not robust enough for accommodation.
Using sites like Trivago or Kayak are great but they often have limitations in their search capabilities.
Use the Kayak anywhere search to get an idea. https://www.kayak.com/explore/PIT-anywhere/20260301,20260307
It’s like a booking platform (ex. Kayak or booking.com) but it does show you all the options available, in clear terms (like if there are transfers, and how much time in between, platform #s, etc)
I'm utterly floored by prices in DC - $500 on Kayak, $400 on Turo, same on Zipcar.
TY for the suggestion of using third party sites. Kayak also shows Avis has availability from Newark to Boston. This wasn't available last week, so maybe more availability is starting to pop up. I'll hold off for another week or so to see if anything additional opens up, but either way huge thanks for the third party site recommendation!
Livia from KAYAK here - there's a toggle on [kayak.com](http://kayak.com/) to allow you to see the full price including taxes: in the hotel search, select all filters > price > in the drop down, select "stay total - including all taxes."
KAYAK filters FTW!
