Pros
- I went to Kamikochi earlier in May. ... From what I remember, the trail on the southern side of the river from Kappa Bridge (Kappabashi) past the camp site to Myojin Bridge was almost entirely flat without stairs or steep hills/grades.
- I love Kamikochi! I'll be passing through Dakesawa next week.
- One of my favorite places! ... if you end up staying overnight in Kamikochi then you can probably do all the little hiking routes, make sure to walk down past the hotel next to the taisho pond all the way down to the next little viewing...
- Overall, 4-5 hours at a slow pace, and incredible scenery all along the way, especially in the first half that's a fairly easy walk. Autumn colours were just the icing on the cake.
- The recommendation to visit Kamikochi was excellent. We had such a wonderful time. ... Even in the heat of summer it was quite the destination!
Cons
- it's not possible to see Kamikochi in only 2 hours in the afternoon. Kamikochi is inaccessible by car and it takes nearly 2 hours to reach it one way from Matsumoto by bus and train.
- Kamikochi is the fragile one of those three because buses and the valley shut when weather gets ugly.
- I gotta be honest, after experiencing the Swiss alps it was not that impressive in comparison, but I still loved it a lot. ... I would say Kamikochi is nice if you've never been to the alps or other similar places, but if you have then i...
- I actually went to Kamikochi last year during autumn colors. Very popular time to visit, and area around the bus stop and kappbashi bridge was absolutely packed midday. My gut says when I went was probably about as bad as silverweek woul...
- Kamichiko seems to be a bad idea during major holidays. Especially with buses going from and to Takayama and dealing with queues and stress.

I would say Kamikochi is nice if you've never been to the alps or other similar places, but if you have then it really is just the bridge and nice nature you may have seen before, and probably safe to skip.

One thing that I expect to be a highlight is missing from your itinerary and that is a night in Kamikochi.
