• The mids: Surprisingly good for an on-ear. The S500 puts the mids a bit forward, but not all the way in your face. Vocals sound great to me—clear and especially without sibilance (which is what I care about the most).
• In conclusion: If anyone is interested in an on-ear for any reason, I would suggest getting a pair. It goes stupidly cheap on the used market, and the quality of everything that the JVC HA-S500 offers is superb, especially for the second...
• Comfort wise: The headphones themselves don’t have too much clamping force. With the addition of head padding and a pad replacement, it is decently comfy—enough that I can sort of sleep with it.
• The bass: Warm sounding. A decent amount of mid-bass; somewhat punchy but not too overpowered. If you want to look for "clean" bass, this isn’t it. However, it is enough that I think most would say it is "fun." Personally, I think it is...

Cons

• The only problems are the lack of headband padding (hence why I wrapped it with extra cloth) and the fact that the earcups can only swivel in one way.
• I had issues with HA-S500 with SS-01 SW-01 all of them struggle if you replace the earpads with new ones and they have dense mesh covering the driver.
• beware - change pads to new ones only if they have similarly sized mesh. Denser mesh changes sound so mich you won’t believe it’s same cans
