Pros

  • BTW, don't forget about [jidoujisho], the most game-changing open source app I've downloaded.
  • Android == Jidoujisho
  • If I use a certain plugin, I can even have it just bring up the definition with a single tap, like in Jidoujisho.
  • Not sure about iPhone but Android has jidoujisho which has Mokuro and っつ reader + dictionary + Anki support
  • For Android there is also Jidoujisho for reading practice

Cons

  • I'm on 2.8.9 (never upgraded because of the hassle of setting up dictionaries all over again). Very occasionally the search will only show the readings of the first kanji in the search term, in which case I just search again and it fixes...
  • So I use Jidoujisho on my phone and mpv player on my laptop.
  • I have set it up myself as well and also had noticed the subtitles do not show up when watching youtube vids with JidouJisho,. Apparently, this is an issue for everyone and there doesn't seem to be a good fix for now sadly
  • Apparently, my problem with Jidoujisho is a known issue. There have been various people reporting it ever since 2.9.0 came out (including someone just today) and the only currently known fix to downgrade to 2.8.10.
  • However, while lookups work just fine on my end when reading blogs on sites like ameba, nothing happens when I select "Instant Exporter" or even "Card Creator".

What redditors said (10 of 11)

I'm on 2.8.9 (never upgraded because of the hassle of setting up dictionaries all over again). Very occasionally the search will only show the readings of the first kanji in the search term, in which case I just search again and it fixes itself. The video player is also basically useless, but I've never had issues with card exports while browsing etc.
