Japanese Gothic

Pros

• Currently reading Japanese Gothic. It’s one of the more unusual horror novels I’ve read. ... everything else about the storyline feels fresh, and the imagery and characters are vivid in a way that is deeper than most novels of this type.
• Japanese Gothic was also great.
• Japanese Gothic by that author was also really good.
• 3. Japanese Gothic - Baker
• Japanese Gothic did give me some good Silent Hill vibes ! Gosh I loved that book so much

Cons

• I immediately followed up with Japanese Gothic. I enjoyed it but not as much as Cora Zeng.
• Parent context: I am interested in this. Did the description of “one is a ghost and one is a murderer” just spoil it? Reply: Same, I skipped ahead to the end because I was curious what the big reveals were, but I was in the mood for horr...
• I DNF'd halfway through when it was clear the genre was more dark fantasy than anything close to resembling horror.
• I can't bring myself to finish Japanese Gothic, it's so clearly a dark fantasy over horror, so disappointing in tone (50% in, maybe it gets better but I don't see how).
• there is a character in Japanese gothic who is like cartoonishly evil and you never learn something else about them besides their wicked ways. It felt one dimensional to me.
