I went to Jamaica on a cruise and did a guided island excursion saw and experienced a bunch in like 8 hours. I went back for a week and stayed at an all inclusive (friends wedding). Airport to resort never left and then back to airport. I saw and experienced more of the island and culture in 8 hour cruise stop then I did in the week at the resort.
Jamaica- didn’t feel very safe anywhere with all the resort workers on the prowl too. Was propositioned multiple times.

I've been to Jamaica solo without issue. You will however feel safer sticking to resorts in Jamaica , don't rent an Airbnb especially if it's your first time .
Best: Jamaica. The crime is high but the country is beautiful and the Jamaican people are friendly, hilarious and always ready to hang out.
Luckily never had anything bad happen but I felt most uncomfortable in Jamaica
I think Jamaica has the "worse" reputation for safety/crime, but even DR will have it's spaces in the cities you'll want to avoid.
Not to say some places aren't safe, but one good tip is that the more All Inclusives a country has, the less they want tourists wandering around in the city because they have issues with crime. Jamaica is a great example of this.
