Ischia

Ischia is highly recommended as a more affordable, laid-back, and less crowded alternative to Capri and the Amalfi Coast. Travelers frequently praise its thermal springs, beautiful scenery, and authentic atmosphere, though some note it is becoming increasingly popular with tourists.
Pros
- Significantly more affordable than neighboring Capri or the Amalfi Coast
- Famous for world-class thermal springs and spa parks like Poseidon and Negombo
- Less densely populated and less 'snooty' than other major Italian island destinations
- Excellent for exploring by scooter or Vespa
- Conveniently located just 30-60 minutes from Naples by ferry
Cons
- Can be time-consuming to reach if on a tight itinerary with multiple flights
- Growing popularity is leading to more day-tripper crowds in peak areas
- Beaches may not be warm enough for swimming outside of peak summer months
Caveats
- A car or scooter is often considered necessary for flexibility and to see the whole island
- Staying overnight is highly recommended to experience the island after day-trippers depart
Best for
- Travelers seeking a relaxed island experience
- Wellness and spa enthusiasts
- Budget-conscious travelers in the Naples region
- Visitors who find Capri too crowded or expensive
Avoid if
- You have a very short itinerary where travel time to the island would be a burden
- You prefer high-end, luxury-focused social scenes over a laid-back vibe

Five nights on Ischia, a DREAM of an island that will soon be slammed like Amalfi but isn't yet.
I love ischia. First time we did a day trip. Second time three nights. Both in August.
You could have the same experience on Ischia at a much lower cost.
It's got quite a lot more touristy since we went but staying overnight lets you escape the day-trippers.
- ferry to capri, ischia or the more quiet procida
I also went to Ischia island by ferry yesterday and had a blast
a day trip or even a full vacation to Ischia would totally fit the bill or peaceful and relaxing. There’s a 2 star Michelin restaurant there and many great seafood places as well.
Just my personal recommendation, I would skip Capri and go to Ischia instead. Cheaper and less crowded. Still beautiful, and we had loads of fun there.
If I were you, I'd look at Ischia or Procida instead.
Try the island of Ischia right near Capri. It’s less populated and less touristy. Was there for a weekend and had the time of my life!
