  • Yeah I hated Act 2 gameplay, but largely enjoyed act 3 due to the narrative (and it gets easier as you progress).
  • Its fun, but not amazing. A lot of the keywords are just bad. ... One major critique I have is that I found the games UI and UX just absolutely miserable. ... Over anything else, Act 2 and 3 grossly overstayed their welcome.

Act 1 in particular I felt had a very robust deck-building game matched by some stylish and spooky visuals. Act 2 is absolutely my least favourite, but I feel the game redeems itself with act 3 which is a return to a similar game from act 1 but with a contrasting visual style and a great villain. I can't even begin to unpack the twisty and meta story that is buried within this game without spoiling, but it is one of the most unique uses of storytelling I have ever seen in a game.

Parent context: I loved Inscryption, but it won't satisfy people who are looking for their next big deckbuilding fix, ala Slay the Spire or Monster Train. The deckbuilding aspect is kind of dull and completely unbalanced, and that's kinda the point: this is a game that's meant to be broken. It's much better at being a Daniel Mullins-type creepypasta mindfuck game than it is at being a deckbuilder. Reply: Nah that's BS man. Do you think if they had made a fun and balanced game, they would be like "Scratch that, that's too fun and balanced, that's not our point, we need to make our game dull and unbalanced, this is a game that's meant to be broken"?

Reply: talking about incscryption as a game and as a piece of art is always difficult because a lot of what inscryption is trying to say is a critique on game design and development.

I liked the strategy aspect even if it made me rage quit from multiple sessions, the Stoat was a funny companion to have that added a sense of comedy and sarcasm to the dark atmosphere, and I overall really enjoyed what I played. However, knowing that there was a second chapter that "changed the entire game", I was eager to get past Act 1 and see what else the game had below the surface. Unfortunately, I was noticing that I was getting a multitude of runs that made me feel like I was making 0 progression... and it ultimately left me feeling unsatisfied.
