Pros

  • I just did the imperial palace tour yesterday in 92 degree heat and thought it was spectacular. If you can handle the heat, I wouldn’t be quick to remove it.
  • If you are a runners, you should definitely jog around the imperial palace.

Cons

  • There is really nothing to see at the Imperial Palace and Ueno Park. Just places to take a long walk or go jogging, but it will be really cold in January.
  • I personally wouldn’t recommend Yanaka Ginza, Imperial Palace, and Shimokitazawa for a first time visit to Tokyo.
  • The other commenter is right that the Imperial Palace in Tokyo isn't much to see.
  • The imperial palace is skippable, tbh, and I see little benefit on the hop-on bus, It'll basically take you where you've already been to.
  • There really isn’t much to see at the imperial Palace. It is a great place to take a long walk, go jogging, etc.

The Imperial Palace is an in-use palace: the emperor lives there. It's surrounded mainly by business areas and is not really a place that I would choose for wandering around.

Same with visiting the Imperial Palace: too hot out to walk around so I just went back to the air conditioned malls.

The Imperial Palace has little to do/see, and will just be a long walk to see a stone wall in the heat. Skip it.
