Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • iMessage is far cleaner than my main apps for messaging (WhatsApp, Snapchat, Discord).
  • Parent context: Facetime only works with a link, not a direct button and call. And RCS is not superior to iMessage that's just a flat out lie. I daily drive an iPhone 16 Pro and a Fold 7 and iMessage is superior in just about every way u...
  • Voice to Text responses in iMessage are great for short messages.

Cons

  • the interface for large attachment review/deletion is ridiculous, too, as if intentionally made as inconvenient to delete them as possible.
  • In iMessage, when I send a nude photo or video, it disappears from the message log and even the photos grid. It either disappears completely and shows a blank space in the messages where mine was, or it will show a question mark (?) file...
  • iMessage texts randomly (?) fail. Error message says “Cannot Send Message. iMessage needs to be enabled to send this message.” ... iMessage is essentially useless with this random error.
  • This exact same thing is happening with our family group chat!! A chat with my parents and I, completely disappeared off my iPhone this past week (years and years of texts just gone).
  • I constantly have problems with iMessage groups. Sometimes a new thread starts for some reason, sometimes I don't get any of the texts, and sometimes I get error notifications. Maybe check that you have RCS enabled. I don't know, it's a...

I daily drive an iPhone 16 Pro and a Fold 7 and iMessage is superior in just about every way unfortunately. Reply: RCS technology is far superior and that's the truth, you just prefer iMessage because of interoperability that it has to deal with for older texting capabilities.

Reply: RCS is so much better that Apple had to implement it and improve iMessage as their protocol downgraded media that wasn't tunneled through their service.

Absolutely! No mass selection, drag to select etc. Seems intentional and fundamentally against user experience.
