Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • Since you’re already going to harbor freight, just start buying Icon instead of Pittsburgh.
  • Brands like icon, gear wrench, and Tekton have all stepped up their game over the years.
  • Icon would probably be easier to warranty.
  • They're both solid. If you're near a HF, I'd go with the Icons since their warranty replacement is so easy.
  • I can't get Icon where I live, but they look good at the price.

Cons

  • Icon seems overpriced for what they are as well.
  • Unpopular opinion, but i have been consistently disappointed with icon. My caliper press stripped, my extended reach ratchet stripped and the selector location is terrible, and my triple square blew up the first time I used it.
  • HF has been the Payless Shoes of tools for a long time which is a reputation that's hard to shake.
  • Icon is under and overrated. Overrated in that some people try to make the case it is as good as snap-on, underrated in that it is damn near as good as Snap On for 1/4 of the price
  • I have some of the icon stuff too, but I treat it like your mom’s fine china. It was so expensive that I’m reluctant to use it.

For most hand tools buy Icon from Harbor Freight. The quality is almost as good as snap on for 1/10 of the price.
