So you could go to Portugal, Spain or Greece until June, then Central or Eastern Europe in summer - like Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania. Both Eastern and Southern Europe are generally cheaper than other parts of Europe, you can travel conveniently with your budget.

As my January destination I chose Hungary, with it’s capital city Budapest. I spent there a prolonged weekend (from Friday to Sunday). It was a trip full of first times for me. It was my first time in Budapest, my first time using train to travel abroad, my first booking a shared apartment and my first time solo travelling. All of those experiences has been more or less great.

Hungary has many fish recipes with zander/pikeperch, Hungarian Fogosch. Budapest is a rather safe city for women to sightsee solo and good public transportation.

If you're really worried about it, you could also try entering through a different country first like Hungary or Croatia, then going to Serbia from there.

I’ve been to Czechia, Austria, Slovenia and Hungary (well, Budapest) in the region. I backpacked to these 4 countries last year May and it was rather effortless.
