I love hcmc for its food. I spend a month or 2 a year there. Hcmc takes a day to see the top attractions. HCMC is only good for food and shopping. May is also rainy season there, i would never go to HCMC in May

I would personally skip Ho Chi Minh, I found it pretty boring and managed to see all the famous places in half a day. Not worth it in my opinion, unless it's a stopover.
Definitely Ho Chi Minh City. It’s a huge, energetic city with nonstop food, history, and street life, but it still flies under the radar compared to places like Bangkok, Tokyo, or Paris. Most tourists only pass through for a day or two before heading to beaches or smaller towns, so they miss how fun the city actually is.
Mid-May it is hot and humid, no sugar-coating. In places like Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi you will see 30–35°C easily, and humidity makes it feel warmer.
I have to go back to visit Ho Chi Minh City and the rice fields in Sapa.
