AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The HiFiMAN HE1000 v2 is widely regarded as an 'end-game' planar magnetic headphone, praised for its holographic soundstage and superior dynamics compared to competitors like the Sennheiser HD800. While its acoustic performance and aesthetic design are highly rated, the product faces significant criticism regarding its internal engineering and long-term reliability.

Pros

  • Holographic soundstage that some users find more immersive than the HD800
  • Excellent dynamics and controlled planar bass
  • Clear and well-tuned out-of-the-box sound signature
  • Highly attractive aesthetic design and premium external build
  • Strong internal adhesives used for magnet and PCB stability

Cons

  • Internal PCB design flaws, including a large connector cutout that leaves minimal support for the driver foil
  • Fabric pads prevent the frequency response from reaching a flat 20Hz sub-bass extension
  • Potential for stress points on the foil due to uneven pressure from screw hole placement
  • Reports of cracked PCBs and 'blown' drivers in some units

Caveats

  • Internal teardowns suggest that while the external build is beautiful, the engineering of the driver housing may lead to durability issues
  • Bass impact is described as 'hit or miss' depending on the specific track being played

Best for

  • Audiophiles seeking a holographic, wide soundstage for classical and rock music
  • Users looking for a significant upgrade over the HiFiMAN Arya
  • Listeners who prefer the characteristics of high-end planar bass

Avoid if

  • You prioritize internal engineering durability and long-term reliability over soundstage
  • You require perfectly flat sub-bass extension without swapping to leather pads

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence comes from a window with a median age of approximately 217 days, which is relatively recent for high-end audio hardware, though some technical teardown data is older.

In terms of sound stage I actually loved the he1000v4 more than the hd800og not “wider” just more holographic also they have better dynamics and bass control in my opinion.

For example I use my HE1000 on Low gain around nearly Low to mid Volume setting and it still is loud around 60db.

I just ordered HE1000 V2's hoping to experience something similar, a more pleasant experience than from my HD800's.

But, none of the newer stuff tends to last longer than 5 years unless it's an ultra expensive model like the Susvara or HE1000.

I’d agree with what Larry has already said, they’re a worthy end game. Out of the box they are clear and well tuned. Bass is hit or miss depending on song I’ve had “wow” moments.
