HiFiMAN HE1000 Stealth

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The HiFiMAN HE1000 Stealth is highly regarded as a 'musical' flagship headphone that balances technical precision with a smooth, non-fatiguing presentation. Users frequently praise its expansive soundstage and detailed retrieval, often comparing its technical capabilities to the Sennheiser HD800 series. While it is noted for having superior bass texture and refinement over the Arya Stealth, some owners suggest the performance gains are incremental (roughly 10-15%) relative to the significant price increase. It is widely considered a 'sweet spot' in the HiFiMAN lineup, particularly when purchased at used market prices, offering a more relaxed and 'pleasing' sound compared to the more analytical HE1000SE.
Pros
- Expansive soundstage with excellent instrument separation and depth.
- Smooth, refined highs that avoid sibilance while maintaining high detail.
- Textured and well-controlled bass with better sub-bass extension than the Arya Stealth.
- Excellent for classical and orchestral music due to its scale and timbre.
- Highly musical 'out of the box' performance that often requires zero EQ for enjoyment.
Cons
- Build quality is frequently cited as inferior to competitors in the same price bracket.
- Diminishing returns: some users find it only a marginal improvement over the cheaper Arya series.
- Imaging precision, while high, is considered slightly less accurate than the HE1000SE or certain high-end IEMs.
- May require a slight bass boost below 125Hz for users who prefer a more impactful low-end.
Caveats
- Requires a dedicated desktop DAC/AMP to reach its full potential; dongles may be insufficient.
- The performance gap between this and the Arya Organic or HE1000SE is a subject of debate, with some preferring the cheaper Organic's punch.
- Significant price volatility noted between original retail and current used market values.
Best for
- Classical and orchestral music listeners.
- Audiophiles seeking a wide, '3D' soundstage without harsh treble.
- Users looking for a flagship-level experience that doesn't strictly require EQ.
Avoid if
- You prioritize robust, premium build quality over pure sound performance.
- You are on a strict budget where the Arya Stealth or Organic provides better value-for-money.
- You prefer a very aggressive, punchy dynamic-driver sound profile.

Some alternative options be the Arya Stealth, Focal Clear OG, or the Meze 109 Pro but your best bet would be either the HE1000 or the Arya Stealth
He1k stealth is a better technical performer, also somewhat warmer (to my ears) compared to Arya Stealth, has even bigger soundstage - also a great value since you can get a refurb for around 800$ directly from Hifiman.
Imo Arya organic > he1k stealth
Seen that word been used to describe the bass on the HE1000 Stealth however that might indicate anything between an ever so slightly warmer presence to coloring the sound excessively, I don't want that
The Stealth is only a couple of hundred more so I think I'll keep my eyes peeled on that one unless someone would strongly convince me to spend 600 more and opt for the HE1000SE …
I would probably put HE1000 Stealth as the most timbrally coherent Hifiman model out there to my ear. If your unit is good, that is.
Decided on the He1000 Stealth and got a Luxsin X9 to pair with it. Pretty amazing so far.
XS is a HE1000 Stealth for a 1/4 of the price in a lot of ways.
The HE1000 Stealth is a superb sounding headphone but it is verrry similar to the Arya. ... The HE1000 sounds a little warmer—not bassier. Just “richer” and a bit more natural in the mids.
I own the older Arya V2 (pre-stealth) and it has the most engaging, textured bass out of all my headphones matched only by the HE1000V2 Stealth.
