Pros

  • Parent context: The K7 made my Arya Stealth sound far too harsh, whereas something like the EF400 improves the Arya experience by giving it a much nicer listening sound Reply: The K7 made my Arya Stealth sound far too harsh, whereas some...
  • I also have a Caldera closed that I use in my office out of a Hifiman EF400. Both run them pretty well, i would guess.
  • I use... the closed (EF400) in the office. ... Thinking of upgrading my EF400 to squeeze every last drop of juice from these cans.
  • The EF400 is already an R2R-capable combo; that's one of the upgrade paths I'd take with planars and you already have that nailed down. I don't think moving up to a higher-end R2R is going to move the needle that much for you
  • I own Audeze LCD-3 and HiFiMan HE1000 Stealth headphones, which I use with a HiFiMan EF400 amplifier, and I'm very happy with them.

Cons

  • I do think I might eventually want to upgrade to a more powerful amplifier than the EF400, since I also picked up the HE-6se, but otherwise I'm very happy with this setup.
  • I feel it's bass blooms to much which takes away from the tactile sensation.
  • I enjoyed the Hifiman EF400 R2R sound on the Aryas and would like something similar that surpasses it in combination with the dedicated amp. ... Mids I enjoy greatly with a natural and somewhat warmer timbre (EF400 was great here, the ES...
  • After countless trials with different amps (Asgard, Zen DAC, Apogee Groove, Mojo 2, EF400), it was almost impossible to find any difference in sound, with the few differences far and in between being so small that I'm not sure if they co...
  • EF400 with its poor measuring R2R implementation muffles the sound (reduce the fidelity) and now the music does not sound as harsh.

I enjoyed the Hifiman EF400 R2R sound on the Aryas and would like something similar that surpasses it in combination with the dedicated amp. ... Mids I enjoy greatly with a natural and somewhat warmer timbre (EF400 was great here, the ESS DACs I tested performed rather weak here), in regard to the highs I'm flexible, the more spacious and positional precise the sound the better (EF400 was lacking a little here)

After countless trials with different amps (Asgard, Zen DAC, Apogee Groove, Mojo 2, EF400), it was almost impossible to find any difference in sound, with the few differences far and in between being so small that I'm not sure if they could be entirely attributed to placebo.
