HiFiMAN Arya
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The HiFiMAN Arya is widely regarded as a high-performance planar magnetic headphone that excels in soundstage, instrument separation, and technical detail. It is frequently described as a significant upgrade over mid-tier models like the Edition XS and Sundara, offering a level of transparency that some users find 'perfect,' though others describe the clinical sound as lacking 'life.' While its comfort is a major selling point due to its suspension headband, the build quality is a recurring point of contention, with users noting a 'cheap' feel and cosmetic issues like paint scratching during adjustment.
Pros
- Exceptional soundstage and instrument separation
- High level of technical detail and transparency
- Outstanding comfort, suitable for long listening sessions and various head sizes
- Responds very well to EQ adjustments
- Excellent value at current discounted or used price points ($500-$600 range)
Cons
- Build quality feels 'cheap' or 'janky' relative to its high price
- Paint on the headband is prone to scratching during size adjustments
- Perceived fragility leads to a sense of having to be overly careful during use
- Sound signature can feel 'clinical' or 'dead' to those preferring a warmer tone
Caveats
- Users coming from the Sennheiser HD6XX series may find the Arya's presentation too different or unenjoyable
- Impressions may vary between versions (V2 vs. V3/Stealth), particularly regarding bass response and timbre
- The physical size is large, which may be a factor for some users despite the light weight
Best for
- Audiophiles prioritizing technical performance and detail retrieval
- Users who value long-term wearing comfort
- Listeners looking for a high-end planar experience at a depreciated market price
Avoid if
- You prefer a warm, intimate, or 'lush' sound signature like the HD600 series
- You demand premium, rugged build materials in high-end electronics
- You are prone to being rough with your gear
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 386 days, which is acceptable for a stable hardware product but may not reflect the most recent pricing shifts or newer model revisions.

you can get the arya for 500-600
if you want a bit more treble so that high notes in guitars and high gets get more emphasized, a hifiman edition xs, ananda, arya would be good. Also provides good soundstage, instrument separation
My experience is this can increase the bass comparing to a hybrid one, it’s my experience on an Arya but I think this should apply to hd560s too.
I went from Sundara to Arya. No complaints.
Arya. Worth it for comfort alone imo.
Parent context: it was night and day, many times over. the aryas sound perfect to me. the editon xs were nice but aryas are so much nicer. i guess you could say im still in the honeymoon phase based on how im describing them lol, but ive had them a month and i still get distracted from what im doing, just to listen to the music and enjoy the headphones. ive stayed up over an hour later than i planned on, just … Reply: it was night and day, many times over. the aryas sound perfect to me. the editon xs were nice but aryas are so much nicer. i guess you could say im still in the honeymoon phase based on how im describing them lol, but ive had them a month and i still get distracted from what im doing, just to listen to the music and enjoy the headphones. ive stayed up over an hour later than i planned on, just because i was enjoying them ive previously owned hd660s, dt990 pro, and the arya is levels above. anything else you get for 300 dollars wont come close
any arya for 300 dollars is a steal
i would be buying those aryas yesterday, thats a damn steal. those used to cost over a grand, and they still compete with headphones in that price bracket
The issue with the Arya is the overwhelming sense of care you feel you have to take every single minute of use.
The Arya is a planar and should take to EQ like a champ.
