Pros
- It’s sad because I very much enjoy Hakushu 12 and 18.
- The Hakushu 18, Yama 18 and Hibiki 21 have almost all the value.
- I think that one is a Hakushu 18. Still a good price though.
- Hakushu 18 is next level compared to the 12 and far less available stateside.
- I had a bottle of hakushu 18 years ago when it was $200. It was amazing. On a different level from the 12.
Cons
- Hakushu 12 and 18 are the same, much prefer the 12. I don’t get as much forest floor and smoke on the 18 which are the notes I enjoy so much in Hakushu.
- im considering a Hakushu 18 but want to inquire, is there any good / rare japanese whisky that has a mid-high age statement like the taketsuru 21?
- I bought hakushu 18 2 years ago from total wine for $550 & yamazaki 18 in October for $650 at bevmo. I now see both listed at bevmo for $750
- Also this is the first time I’ve seen Yamazaki and Hakushu 18 at my duty free airport in recent trips. Too expensive for me but nice to see some other options.

Hakushu 18 is good too, not sure if you’ve gotten to try that one yet. Very little if any peat, and essentially tastes like a giant sweet, luscious fruit salad 🥗
I tend to think Hakushu 18 is better than yamazaki, as it’s got a more robust and complex flavor profile. However it’s slightly petey.
