Haarlem. Great city to walk around in. Lots of great food, good shopping, some really neat museums. Worth a couple of days.
As a Dutch local, I have a slight preference for Haarlem, Utrecht, and Leiden over Alkmaar.
Haarlem: Charming medieval town, 15 min by train
Haarlem is a 30 minute train ride.
