Pros

  • A MiniFreak and a Grandmother in the back? Bro you're all set.
  • I'm a huge Moog fan also, I have all 5 of the semi modulars, a Mavis and Werkstatt, and a Grandmother & Matriarch, plus the first four foogers and a CP. Love the Moog sound and just generally Moog-i-ness of it all.
  • Grandmother is an incredibly beautiful and characterful sounding instrument, and the architecture/UI is extremely refined and straightforward.
  • This is an incredibly well-designed synthesizer that sounds great and is fun to use.
  • The Grandmother was my second synth, after my Model D. I learned so much from it. It's been about 4 years now with it, and I love it. I love being about to make sounds with a few twists of a few knobs. It's actually what I use too for my...

Cons

  • Not worth it anymore. A new thing came out and now it no longer makes sounds
  • GM was my first synth, sold it because I wanted the ability to save presets. Still miss the sound sometimes.

The Grandmother was my second synth, after my Model D. I learned so much from it. It's been about 4 years now with it, and I love it. I love being about to make sounds with a few twists of a few knobs. It's actually what I use too for my band. I especially love that I can incorporate it with my eurorack set. It's definitely worth it.

Parent context: Personally I think the Grandmother is amazing and perfect for a first synth. But it is mono and in some respects a bit simple. However I think the simplicity actually makes it a great first synth. The interface I think is among the best you can get as well. It has a (simple) sequencer and arp. Even after 4+ years Im far from bored with it... Reply: Hard agree, the GM is just magical.

I really like it and use it almost every day! It definitely has a more vintage sound than the subsequent 37 which is probably the closest comparable synth. If you want to achieve a sound as close to a minimoog as possible you should definitely buy the GM (if you want to buy a moog). It can make some really beefy vintage bass sounds.
