Pros

  • a new user mentioned that he preferred his new Old Fashioned to his old Grado SR80x, which he had loved.
  • I've had Sennheisers 6xx, I currently own a focal bathys, grados sr80x and the Philips X2HR. And I was blown away by the sound of the Philips more than any other headphone.
  • The Grados were a watershed moment for my listening habits. I thought they were the best thing I had ever heard. ... there is still something about the tonality and imaging that makes me prefer the Grado's.
  • I also have the Grado SR80x and I love them but I can see why others don’t.
  • Listening to them now and this is my headphone for life.

Cons

  • They sound wonderful but man it hurts to wear them longer than 5 minutes
  • Parent context: I have the same 80x and the highs just sound like nails on chalkboard. Hate it. I keep them just as a reference when auditioning other headphones for folks. Reply: I was preparing myself for this, but after hearing them I...

I ve been listening to the grados and OH MY GOD! First open back headphone I've owned has wowed me beyond belief. ... they are sounding more natural and full than the bathys! Been listening back and forth and they beat my bathys in midrange hands down.

The Grado SR80X have bern a really good surprise for hifi listening, although at this entry level price point, don’t expect too much neither.
