Going Postal is a great pick. The epitome of Pratchett's knack for making the mundane fantastical, and a razor-sharp satire of politics and economics, and also the origin of GNU.

Moist Lipwig from Discworld, especially in Going Postal. He's a hardened criminal who poses as a local hero who values the greater good. Excellent critique of corrupt politicians who get the public to love them.

If you rather start with something at the smarter end to see if you like it maybe try Going Postal. You can just straight there without missing too much context.

Have you read Going Postal by Terry Pratchett? You don't need to read any other discworld books to enjoy it, it's good as a standalone and widely considered one of his best.

I started with Moist von Lipwig's "Going Postal" and I loved it, I think it's a great starting point because, being written later, the first book in the series is already great.

Seconding Going Postal as a good entry point. By then he’d already established a lot of the elements of the Discworld, the fantasy-and-humor-as-a-mirror-to-reality stuff

This is my favorite of the three Discworld books I’ve read. Moist is the only main character that I found compelling and I found the humor and absurdity of the story to work well for me.
