Ghost of Yotei
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Ghost of Yotei is generally received as a high-quality sequel that refines the foundation of Ghost of Tsushima with improved world design and a more flexible combat system. While many players praise the new weapon swapping mechanics and the ability to replay duels, a vocal segment of the community feels the game plays it too 'safe,' citing repetitive open-world activities like fox dens and shrines that feel overly familiar to the first title.
Pros
- Weapon swapping system provides more variety than the previous stance system
- World design uses visual cues (colored trees, birds) to guide players naturally
- New ability to replay completed camps and duels
- Side quests are noted as being more varied and engaging than the predecessor
- Strong technical performance, including a praised 40 fps mode
- Inclusion of music by Shinichiro Watanabe
Cons
- Repetitive open-world 'checklist' activities (fox dens, shrines, hot springs)
- Lack of a transmog system; stats and abilities remain tied to specific gear
- Loadout system is viewed as a step back from the original game
- Limited horse speed settings, lacking an intermediate 'canter' pace
Caveats
- Opinions are mixed on the game's similarity to the first title; some see it as a perfect refinement while others call it a 'clone.'
- The $70 price point was highlighted as a potential barrier for non-affluent players.
Best for
- Fans of Ghost of Tsushima who want an evolved version of that experience
- Players who enjoy 'zen' exploration and high visual fidelity
- Completionists who enjoy clearing dense open-world maps
Avoid if
- You are burnt out on the 'Ubisoft-style' open-world formula
- You were hoping for a radical mechanical departure from the first game

Is it? I got it and thought it was just a clone of ghost of Tsushima

Such a great game.
So hyped for this. Not many games are day 1 buy for me anymore
Just like Deat my Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, etc I just want more of that amazing world with just enough new things to mix things up and I’m happy lol.
Once I finish Ghost of Yotei and E33 I have a whole Switch backlog I'm excited to try with the 2's added power.
I bought it because I knew I wanted a pretty game where I could hit people with a sword and that had a lot of content. Something to space out with after work. It provides that, and the enemies, areas, and builds are varied enough that I haven't gotten bored yet. I'm loving it.
The game is too similar to Tsushima, which is my biggest disappointment, but I think you're wrong on the side quests as a whole. I actually think that is the game's biggest strength this time around.
I found the side stuff to be varied enough compared to the first game that I enjoyed finding everything. ... And I enjoy Yotei so much more than Tsushima due to the weapon swapping system, rather than having stances of one single weapon.
I am shocked by how much I am not liking Ghost of Yotei after 12 hours. ... For 12 hours, my brain was constantly bored feeling that I’ve seen this before, for 60h in the original game. Seeing another fox den, another shrine, another hot springs made me so underwhelmed by the safety of this sequel that I really wanted to know your opinion.
