Pros

  • One of us is a huge studio Ghibli park fan so this was a must do in Japan .We had the premium tickets so did all the park related activity, lots of photos were taken that day
  • Ghibli Park specifically really demands a full day to get the whole experience, and from my reading suggests that we should try to arrive early
  • But yes, Ghibli Park is for a specific sort of Ghibli fan. ... being immersed in some of those scenes is exactly what my wife is looking for (and it just so happens that the park focuses heavily on our favorite titles, like Whisper of th...

Cons

  • Ghibli Park is not a day trip from Kyoto. You literally pass through Nagoya on your way between Tokyo and Kyoto, so you have two chances to do it without wasting time and plenty of money in transport.
  • The park is definitely for people who enjoy taking photos and the idea of being immersed in the sets of their favorite movies. I thought it was fun but i can see why some people wouldn't.
  • All flights and hotels are booked and only 3 activites are properly booked so far (Universal Studios, DisneySea & Ghibli Park).
  • Parent context: I think the Ghibli Museum is a better option then. I'd like the immersion in scenery but we're not people who enjoy taking pictures, so it looks like the park would be boring for us then. Reply: Many of the areas of the p...

Debating whether or not we should do Ghibli park. We did the Ghibli museum in Tokyo years ago and I really enjoyed it, but for some reason Ghibli Park doesn't excite me the way I'd expect it to. I heard it's not worth it if you don't have access to *all* the sites and a lot of the reviews I've seen are families (with children) or people that live and breathe Ghibli.

Parent context: I think the Ghibli Museum is a better option then. I'd like the immersion in scenery but we're not people who enjoy taking pictures, so it looks like the park would be boring for us then. Reply: Many of the areas of the park do not even allow pictures, in fact!

But yes, Ghibli Park is for a specific sort of Ghibli fan. ... being immersed in some of those scenes is exactly what my wife is looking for (and it just so happens that the park focuses heavily on our favorite titles, like Whisper of the Heart and Kiki's) so it's a clear pick for us

Ghibli Park if you want to immerse yourself in recreations of locations in the films. Ghibli Park is very out of the way in Aichi... Many people have expressed being disappointed in it, and it's important to know what it is and isn't before deciding to go.

Ghibli Park – 2 hour train ride one-way – day trip, shinkansen from Kyoto to Nagoya is fast, metro from Nagoya station to Ai-Chikyuhaku-Kinen-Koen Station needs to have lots of time budgeted for
