Pros
- I got the vivoactive 5 as its more focused on fitness vs running. Love it!
- Otherwise the Vivoactive 5 ($200) and 6 ($250) are great all around fitness watches. In my opinion, they look a little less “sports watch” than the Forerunners.
- Bought last November, pretty much had the same requirements as you. 100% happy with it.
- Overall, its a small and comfy device. I also try it on sometimes for fun and I'm always surprised how small it is compared to my Instinct. ... For the price there are better alternatives I think but if you are aiming for Garmin (we did)...
- Got it in August no problems so far simple and practical
Cons
- if he has been happy with it then the latest Vivoactive 6 or even the previous 5 version should satisfy his needs.
- for the past few months, i've been dealing with issues with the vivo 5. i got one in august for my birthday, and it worked great for a few weeks, then a software update happened and the battery crashed
- As a runner, I wish there were more features like the Forerunners have, but at the end of the day, I liked the way the Vivoactive looked on my wrist so I compromised. I’ve run several marathons with it and while it doesn’t have everythin...
- Nah I got rid after about 2 months for a 165
- Real value for money as it cost the same as a vivoactive 4 or 5.

As a runner, I wish there were more features like the Forerunners have, but at the end of the day, I liked the way the Vivoactive looked on my wrist so I compromised. I’ve run several marathons with it and while it doesn’t have everything, I like the data it provides and will keep it until it breaks.
So, I purchased the Vivoactive 5 last Christmas, and am overall happy with the device for the price. That said, I wanted to monitor a handful of metrics (sleep, HR, step), as an alarm so I don't wake my spouse, and to provide notifications without checking my phone. For me, it is perfect for my needs.
