Pros

  • I’ve had a 530 for years and it has been fantastic to navigate to new trails, be it from trailforks or any other mapping app. Garmin is incredibly versatile with its app integrations and loading a gpx is really easy
  • The 530 is a good device, compact and lighter than the 840.
  • I use a 530 and it is ok, I don’t think that the 540 is so much better.
  • I ditched my 520 and went with a used 530 for Xert Magic Buckets — no regrets.
  • I use the venerable Edge 130, and a 530, both integrated well with a Varia rear radar and a Garmin headlight. Very small, battery lasts forever, and they get the job done.

Cons

  • Mine does seem to fuck up a lot when deviating from the route. Not always a free choice but it always fuks up the route.
  • It took me a while to get the hang of using my Edge 530 for indoor training though, it isn’t very intuitive.

don't really use navigation so the 530 is totally fine for me.

I enjoy my 530. Garmin has the IQ store where you can download free 3th party fields. The color bars for power and heart rate are the most notable.
