Garmin Edge 1040

Pros

• I use a Garmin head unit (1040, but you can easily go smaller. I'm 56 as well, and need the slightly larger text) paired with a chest strap heart rate monitor. For me this works really well.
• I travel a lot to different countries with my 1040, haven’t filled up the storage yet.
• Edge 1040 is fantastic, good choice
• Ended up getting a Garmin Edge 1040. The tracking works very well in thick forests and the trailforks integration was helpful.
• my Edge will navigate me with the screen on full daylight brightness for 30+ hours. ... For cycling, I use my Edge with a chest strap for HR (plus the other sensors) and that gives me all the info and data recording I need.

Cons

• Does it have have a preset map when i update it or do i have to purchase topoactive maps which is ridiculous for $89.99 CAD / 1 device / no free update / 1 year expiration. ?
• then did 1040 and had a glitch and lost part of a ride (extremely rare I know, but I lost trust) and still found the maps ugly. Battery life isn’t amazing compared to edge 1040 but easily lasts for a 10+ hour ride with 0 battery saving s...
• I'd be a little concerned with the potential battery life for your longer rides with the used Edge, but there's no way to really know until you try it out.
