Pros

  • Or maybe if you were really absorbed by the story and characters of Persona 5 and FFX, take a look at Spiritfarer or (if you have a Switch) Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
  • I love the game dearly. I remember completing my blue lions playthrough on the Sunday and calling in sick on the Monday so I could do the black Eagle lol Good characters and world building, I thought it was genius making you choose whic...
  • Three Houses completely floored me. In most FE games, the plot and characterization are kind of a second or even third priority - they’re there to set up the tactical encounters, but rarely rise above decent anime tropes. Three Houses is...
  • Three Houses is absolutely the most beginner friendly entry. It's also the easiest and 'dumbed down' (e.g. no weapon triangle). It's popular because it has compelling characters.
  • Massive content, rather interesting story - the sim aspect (romance and even tea parties!) is a double-edged sword, it's both enjoyable but also a bit of a chore. But it makes the permadeaths even more exciting!

Cons

  • It’s a shame that some of the monastery management wasn’t a little less tedious though. I needed a break from the game after the first time I played it.
  • The main flaw of Three Houses comes from trying to replay it, as the first 50% of the game is exactly the same and boring as all get out. I burned out before even reaching the >!timeskip!<.
  • The monastery parts just utterly destroyed any enthusiasm I had for this game. Just annoying run around fetch quest tedium that dominated the game time.
  • YES, the day-to-day monastery life can get a little tedious, and not every map design is perfect. Some routes are particularly underbaked (Crimson Eagle, the most interesting plot-wise, has fewer maps than all the rest.)
  • After Three Houses made me check out of Fire Emblem, I decided to follow the countless "trust me, you'll love Engage then" comments

I love the game dearly. I remember completing my blue lions playthrough on the Sunday and calling in sick on the Monday so I could do the black Eagle lol Good characters and world building, I thought it was genius making you choose which house to join right at the start, makes it more of a gut Instinct decision Soundtrack is top notch and i ended up playing it for 200 hours lol

Three Houses completely floored me. In most FE games, the plot and characterization are kind of a second or even third priority - they’re there to set up the tactical encounters, but rarely rise above decent anime tropes. Three Houses is on another level entirely.

I started out really liking it but grew tired of a lot of things about it. Comparatively, I feel like Engage brings a lot of things I liked about 3H (bosses with revival, heroes with AoE attacks, Emblem Rings basically being supercharged Battalions) a bit more in line with what I expect from Fire Emblem.

3 houses has some of the worst level design in the series, nothing but big empty maps with no gimmicks or side objectives
